A vouch network for the SOF community

Who’s your first pick on the team?

The people you served with answer that about you, one word each: First pick, Solid or Pass. The network does the math and you get a trust score and a signed card. Build it once and carry it to every contract after, instead of proving who you are all over again every time somebody new wants a packet.

The card

This is what an employer sees.

One link. It shows your tier, your skills and how many separate units vouched for you, and it’s signed with our key so nobody can forge it or edit it. You can leave your name off it. Open the sample and check the signature yourself.

What this is

Your rep shouldn’t stay behind when you get out.

OPtrust is a private network for the SOF community. You build one profile with your units, deployments and skills, and we read your DD214 once. The people who were on the team with you vouch for you. That turns into a trust score and a signed card, and those go with you to the next gig and the one after it.

Somebody has a contract? They post it here with the point of contact and the rate, same as it already goes out on Signal, and you hear about it first. Vetted employers can search the network, but they don’t see a single name until you say yes.

We built it to get guys out of the military and into good work without proving themselves again at every door. Free for operators, invite-only.

Why it exists

Built by an operator who got sick of the packet.

Same fifteen-page packet for every contract. Three references who get the phone call again. A verification process I’d already passed five times. Recruiters farming résumés off people who were never there.

The people who know if you’re good were on the team with you. So that’s the product. Your teammates vouch and the network does the math, and the answer follows you wherever you go.

Combat controller, self-taught, tired of private-sector leeches adding no value
Three words

Would you pick them? That’s the whole scale.

No five stars. You rate people the way you’d actually pick a team, on character and on specific skills. Only a First pick is attributed. The other two are anonymous so nobody waters down a Pass because they’re worried about who finds out.

First pick
“I’d pick them first for my team.”
Attributed and full weight. This is the one that moves the score.
Solid
“I’d want them on my team, no issues.”
Anonymous, half weight. Twenty of them from twenty different units still adds up.
Pass
“I probably wouldn’t pick them.”
Anonymous, and it counts one and a half times. More when Passes come from several units.
How the score works

Six layers of math and no black box.

Nobody can buy a score on here or type one in. It gets computed twice a day from the graph of who vouched for whom, and the same vouches always give the same number.

01
Cluster detection
Works out the tribes in the graph from who vouches for whom and who served together, so every vouch comes from somewhere we can place.
Community detection over the weighted vouch graph. Nothing self-reported.
02
Context weighting
A vouch from someone who was there for three years and holds the skill outweighs one from someone who wasn't. Back-scratching gets discounted.
Every vouch is a weighted edge, and nobody sets their own weight.
03
Decay
Skill vouches fade over the years and character vouches barely do. Old mistakes lose weight, but they stay on the timeline.
Signal decays toward a floor and never reaches zero.
04
Trust propagation
Trust starts at vetted seed operators and flows out along the vouches until the network settles. If trusted people vouch for you, you end up trusted.
Iterated over the whole graph until it converges, once for character and once per skill.
05
Diversity scoring
Ten vouches from one team count for less than three from three different units. Independent negatives from separate units hit hardest.
Diversity multiplies. Independent negatives compound.
06
Fraud detection
A separate pass hunts for rings of accounts that only vouch for each other. A flag goes to a person to look at and never straight to a score.
Honest and dishonest labels spread through the graph until the rings light up.

What’s inside

Everything that used to be a packet, in one profile.

No feed and no endorsement spam. Nobody is posting their morning workout on here.

Profile & card
Units, deployments, skills and clearance. We read the DD214 once. The card goes out as one signed link.
Vouching
Find the people you served with and rate them on character and on specific skills, one word each.
Gigs
Contracts from the community and from vetted employers, POC and rate up front. You can get an alert the second one goes up.
Employer search
Employers search by skill, clearance, tier or availability and never see a name or any PII. You can turn one down without explaining yourself.
Locked down

Your service record lives here. This is what happens to it.

It’s about the most sensitive thing you’ll ever put on a website, so we went with boring, proven cryptography. No blockchain and no outside AI.

▪
Signed cards. Change one character on a card and the signature fails. Anyone can check it against our public key.
Ed25519
▪
Employers never see your name. You stay anonymous until you say yes to a specific employer, and each employer gets a different ID for you so two of them can’t compare notes.
HMAC-SHA256
▪
Negatives are never attributed. A Pass counts. Nobody, including the person rated, finds out who said it.
anonymous by design
▪
Your DD214 is destroyed after review. It’s encrypted inside the app before it’s stored, and only the person reviewing it opens it. The file is deleted the moment there’s a decision. Only your branch and service dates are kept.
AES-256-GCM
▪
The key isn’t on the server. The servers sit in New York on an encrypted disk. The key is held in Virginia by a different hosting company, so a copied or seized disk is worthless to whoever has it.
LUKS2 full-disk
▪
Backups too. Encrypted before they leave the server. We restore them to make sure they actually work.
encrypted off-site
▪
Passwords are never stored. We keep one-way hashes, never the password, and you can turn on two-factor sign-in. Reset your password or sign out and every session dies.
bcrypt · TOTP
▪
Rosters are hashed. Partner foundation rosters are kept as keyed one-way hashes and checked by an isolated service the app itself can’t read.
HMAC-SHA256
▪
We watch ourselves. Admin tools won’t open without two-factor. Every view of a record is logged by name and nobody can approve their own. Every login to the server gets reported.
audit log · 2FA
▪
Nothing leaves. No outside AI or OCR, no analytics. The document reader runs on our own hardware. Nothing is sold or shared with brokers. Self-hosted and US-owned.
zero third parties
The honest limit

While the server is running the app can read what it needs to show you, and an admin can open a DD214 that’s waiting for review. That’s the only window. Every one of those views is logged by name in a log nobody can edit, and the file is gone the moment the review is done.

What is kept and who sees it is in the privacy notice.
